"Smiley" Shenkel & More Bands!
Nashville musician Mark "Smiley" shingle recently got in touch and provided the "Other Side Of Nashville" project with a boxload of really cool stuff. Mark has played in a number of my favorite local bands, including Riff Rath/Riff Raff, Freedom Of Expression and AKA Rudy. Along with a bunch of zine articles on his various bands, Mark also sent a lot of show flyers, some CDs and cassettes, and a DVD of his band Fatgnat. All of this will find a home in the upcoming book. Mark also clued me in to a couple of other local bands that deserve a place on our still-growing list, namely Nine Parts Devil, Mr. Potatohead and Audrey Malone & the Rhythm Kings. Consider them all added....
A local music fan by the name of Meredith Faucette emailed me at rev.gordon (at) gmail.com and suggested that I put Impetuous Doom on the list, and I agree. I seem to remember seeing those guys back at the Cannery when I was working security for shows that Gus Palas was promoting at the club. Pretty brutal stuff, as I remember, and deserving of a wider audience. Thanks Meredith!
Speaking of good old Gus, I ran across a handful of comp CDs that GVPIII and KC Chopson had put together back in the day. Discs with titles like Major Potential and What's The Buzz?, they had a bunch of bands that I had forgotten about or didn't know about so I've added them all to the list, too. Finally, Max Vague's brother Jimmy got in touch and his band Rockin' Foot Clutch is back together and ready to wreak havoc on the Music City. Max Vague, of course, is one of my favorite local artists of all time, and talent obviously runs in the family 'cause Jimmy rips the strings like nobody's business. The band list now stands at 332 names and shows no signs of slowing down....

Do you know how to get in touch with the band "FATGNAT" ... I can not find a website, and the email address I was given more than a year ago does not work.
