Samothrace tour dates announced....

Lawrence, Kansas doom-metal mavens Samothrace have a lot to be happy about – the band will release its debut album in October, and they'll be on the roar touring in support of said disc through the end of the year and solidly into the next.

Titled Life's Trade, the album features four slow-burning, white-hot tracks that feature, quoting the label's press release, "the melodic interplay of guitarist Bryan Spinks and Renata Castagna is distinct in doom played this heavy and each song is meticulously crafted for maximum emotional impact." Sounds worth checking out, either in your local club, or at your indie music store (or both).

Technical-metal burners All Shall Perish will be returning from Europe soon, and jumping right back into the fire with a cross-country slash-n-burn tour with fellow destructors Job For A Cowboy, Hate Eternal, Animosity and Annotations Of An Autopsy. Kicking off on November 13th, 2008 in Pomona, Cali the band is psyched to be bringing their own unique brand of terror to your town.

All Shall Perish drummer Matt Kuykendall sez, "we can't fucking wait to do this tour! This is a full on death metal onslaught not to be missed. We have known Job For A Cowboy, Animosity, and Hate Eternal for a while and so its going to be a reunion as well. Nachtmystium to tour with Opeth, High On Fire!

Nachtmystium will be joining fellow metal stalwarts Opeth and High On Fire in September as their opening act for the first half of the two bands' North American tour. Nachtmystium has been hitting the road heavy in support of its recent Century Media release, Assassins: Black Meddle, Pt. 1.

The album has received widespread critical acclaim from the usual suspects, metal zines like Metal Maniacs, Terrorizer and Decibel as well as from unlikely sources such as CMJ New Music Monthly. These three bands have widely varying metallic visions, so these shows should be real barn-burners. Be sure to check 'em out at a city near you!

Abigail Williams kicks off tour, new LP impending....

Metal band Abigail Williams will be touring this summer as part of Revolver magazine's "Thrash and Burn Tour," kicking off on July 29th, 2008 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The much anticipated tour also features the bands Darkest Hour, Parkway Drive, Misery Signals, Winds of Plague, Arsis and other choice metallic ear-bashers.

While kicking out the jams on the "Thrash and Burn" Tour, Abigail Williams will be performing tunes from their upcoming Candlelight Records album, In the Shadow of a Thousand Suns. Produced by James Murphy, the album features a guest appearance by drummer Trym Torson (Emperor, Zyklon). Watch for In the Shadow of a Thousand Suns sometime this fall.

Obituary tour dates & new EP release!

Death metal legends Obituary will be returning any day now from their devastation of Europe, including what is certain to be a monster appearance at the famed Wacken Open Air Festival in Germany, to kick off an American tour in September.

The same day that Obituary launches its tour in Atlanta, Candlelight Records will release the band's four-song Left To Die EP. Following up on the worldwide success of the band's 2007 album Xecutioner's Return, the new EP includes two entirely new songs, a re-recording of the band's classic song "Slowly We Rot," and Obituary's rendering of the Celtic Frost tune "Dethroned Emperor." Left To Die will also include a copy of the band's popular "Evil Ways" video.

Formed in 1984 by brothers John Tardy (on vocals) and Donald Tardy (drums), Obituary has delivered its potent, ear-bashing brand of slash-n-burn metallic overkill for almost a quarter-century. Between 1989 and 2005, the band released six studio albums and a live disc through notable hard rock/heavy metal label Roadrunner Records, signing with Candlelight for the release of the critically-acclaimed Xecutioner's Return LP. The Left To Die EP will be released on September 16, 2008 by Candlelight.

Dimmu Borgir announce "Blackest Of Black" tour, new DVD!

Roaring back after a two-year absence from the heavy metal battlefield, popular Norwegian face-bashers Dimmu Borgir will be hitting the highways and byways of the United States and Canada this fall, headlining the "Blackest of the Black Tour" with the legendary Danzig, Moonspell, Winds Of Plague and Skeletonwitch. At the same time, in October 2008, the band will also be releasing their new concert DVD, The Invaluable Darkness, on Nuclear Blast Records.

The Invaluable Darkness set will include two DVDs and a bonus audio CD. The first DVD disc features performances from the band's 2007 European tour, including stops in Oslo, Norway; Berlin, Germany; and London, England, along with behind-the-scenes footage from the tour. The second DVD disc features the band's 13-song performance from the "Black Metal Stage" at the Wacken Open Air festival in Germany from August 2007. Also included on disc 2 are Dimmu Borgir music videos, and studio footage from the P3 sessions held in September 2007 at the NRK Studio 19 in Oslo. The audio CD features a dozen performances from these P3 sessions.

Sourvein signs with Candlelight, hits the road....

Doom-metal faves Sourvein have signed with noted metal label Candlelight Records, a move that has the band joining a roster of heavyweights that includes folks like Daylight Dies, Crowbar and Obituary, among many others. A five-song, limited edition EP titled Imperial Bastard will be released on September 30th, 2008 to be followed by a full-length album, produced by Billy Anderson, in early 2009.

Formed in 1993 in Wilmington, North Carolina, Sourvein later moved its home base to New Orleans in 1998, releasing a self-titled debut album in 2000, following it up with Will to Mangle in 2002. In the wake of Hurricane Katrina, the band relocated to Cape Fear, North Carolina. The current Sourvein line-up includes former Buzzov-En vocalist T-Roy Medlin and drummer Ramzi, bassist Bonne Doom, and guitarists Cool Clyde and Sleepy Doom; the band will be on tour through mid-August.

Bleed The Sky offer new album, tour, line-up....

Oklahoma City's favorite metal band, Bleed The Sky, recently released its long-awaited sophomore album, Murder The Dance. In support of the Nuclear Blast America release, Bleed The Sky will hit the road in July to tour behind the album.

For this tour, the band will also be unveiling its new line-up, featuring Noah Robinson on vocals, guitarists Rob Thornton and Justin Warrick, bassist Ryan Clark and drummer Austin D'Amond. Warrick joins the band from the Southern California band Rev.

The follow-up to the band's stunning 2005 debut album, Paradigm In Entropy, the new album also features vocal contributions from folks like Jeremy Hall (Dying Regret), Martina Axen (Drain STH), and Jon Howard (Threat Signal). Shai Halud's Misanthropy Pure and summer tour

Metalcore heroes Shai Hulud will release their latest effort this week, Misanthropy Pure, from Metal Blade Records. It's the band's first recording in over five years, and its first with a brand spankin' new line-up that includes guitarist Matt Fox, vocalist Matt Mazzali, bassist Matt Fletcher, and drummer Andrew Gormley.

Of Misanthropy Pure, Fox says, "it’s faster, slower, more metal, less metal, more rock, more progressive, and less progressive than anything we’ve ever done. There’s not a million change ups on power chords. It’s a lot heavier and punchier. It doesn’t adhere to any current trends and is 100% Southern rock-free. There’s not one conventional breakdown, yet it still maintains the ferocity." Of course, the band will launch a two-month summer tour to support the album, and we've got the tour dates below!

Extreme metal faves Soilent Green have kicked off a tour in support of their latest and greatest album, Inevitable Collapse in the Presence of Conviction, released in mid-April by Metal Blade Records.

The band's fifth studio album, Inevitable Collapse in the Presence of Conviction is already collecting some amazing and highly positive reviews. Tesla is Comin' Atcha this summer!

It's been nearly 25 years since we first heard from hard rock heroes Tesla, and in that quarter-century the band has released a dozen albums, performed over 2,500 shows, and sold better than 16 million albums worldwide. On July 15, 2008 (changed from June 24) the band will release its third DVD, Comin' Atcha Live! 2008, which captures a February 2008 performance in Maplewood, Minnesota. The DVD will feature over two hours of live music along with behind-the-scenes footage and other extras.

"This DVD marks a new era creatively for TESLA because we put it all together ourselves, capturing the band’s concert and life on the road," says lead guitarist Frank Hannon. "Nowadays, we are more involved in every aspect of our music career than ever before. We are very excited about the creative results and it really shows in the new DVD."

Tesla has been on tour constantly over the past year, performing in support of the band's critically-acclaimed, two-disc Real To Reel covers album. Black Cobra's new album, European tour starts NOW!

Black Cobra's new album, Feather and Stone, is scheduled for release on May 27, 2008 by At A Loss Recordings.

Feather and Stone will be released as a very cool gatefold vinyl album with a first pressing of 500 copies in black and 500 copies in various marble colors. The vinyl version will also include a free digital download of Feather and Stone. Mouth of the Architect album, tour dates!

While planning for a two-month, cross-country tour, Mouth of the Architect has posted their new song "Hate And Heartache" on both their MySpace page and on the Translation Loss Records MySpace page. Taken from their upcoming album, titled Quietly, the song kicks serious ass, starting off slowly with some found sounds (kinda like turning the dial across scratchy nighttime AM radio broadcasts) before kicking into full-blown, grinding metallic wreckage.

Scheduled for release by Translation Loss Records on July 22, 2008, Quietly will be available as both a CD and a double-gatefold vinyl album. The band's "Ultimate Brodeo Tour" kicks off on August 1st in Columbus, Ohio with Mouth of the Architect and their friends Intronaut and Behold The Arctopus sharing the bill. Candlemass Tour Dates Confirmed!

Legendary doom-metal giants Candlemass have confirmed North American tour dates for May and June. This is the band's first tour of the states in 17 years, so to say that it is greatly anticipated may well be an understatement. This is also the first time that Candlemass will be performing stateside with Texas native and former Solitude Aeturnus vocalist Robert Lowe at the helm.

Founding Candlemass member, bassist Leif Edling had this to say about the band's return to North America:

"Last time we were over was in 1991 and that’s way too long! We wanna make this tour a very special event for all our fans in the States and all new American fans of doom and metal too. Bangkok Five release new CD, plan tour!

They've been compared to both Zodiac Mindwarp & the Love Reaction and The Cult, so we have big hopes for We Love What Kills Us, the second album from The Bangkok Five. The band will be hitting the road in May with Bobaflex in support of the new disc, which will be released by Long Live Crime Records on June 10, 2008.

We Love What Kills Us is the follow-up to the band's 2006 album, Who's Gonna Take Us Alive?, which won The Bangkok Five no little praise and high-profile tourdates with bands like Buckcherry, Hot Hot Heat, the Stooges, The Bronx and Papa Roach. Advance praise for the new album has been equally positive, with one scribe stating that the album has a "touch of sleaze, a touch of glam and a whole bunch of attitude." Yes go Close to the Edge and Back!

Celebrating their 40th anniversary as a band, prog-rock legends Yes will kick off a 26-night North American tour on July 12, 2008 with a show in Quebec City, Quebec Canada. Calling it their "Close to the Edge and Back Tour," this outing will be the band's first national tour in five years. The line-up this time around includes Yes founding members Jon Anderson and Chris Squire, along with Steve Howe, Alan White and Oliver Wakeman, son of former band keyboardist Rick Wakeman. Tickets will go on sale on March 29th through the Live Nation website.

Along with the upcoming tour, Yes will participate in a reality program called "VH1 Classic Presents: Your Move with Yes." Beginning in early-April on VH1Classic.com, the band and the cable network will be looking for a talented rock performer to join the Yes on stage. The winner will be invited to join Jon Anderson in performing "Give Love Each Day" from the Yes album Magnification.

Aspiring contestants will upload a 2-to-5 minute video of themselves performing an original rock song or piece of music. Submissions will be reviewed, and a panel of VH1 Classic judges and Jon Anderson will select three finalists. The VH1Classic.com audience will vote for the winner. Videos submitted and chosen as finalists will also be used in on-air promotional spots during the voting period. Additional details about the contest will be announced in early April.

Daylight Dies launch album & tour

Critically-acclaimed North Carolina metal band Daylight Dies is preparing for a cross-country tour with the legendary Candlemass in advance of the band's anticipated third album, Lost to the Living. The tour kicks off on May 19th, 2008 and ends just before the June 24th Candlelight Records release of Lost to the Living.

Daylight Dies was formed by drummer Jesse Haff and guitarist Barre Gambling in 1996, the band releasing its first album, No Reply, on Relapse Records in 2002. Candlelight picked up the fledgling doom-metal band in time to release the second Daylight Dies' album, Dismantling Devotion, in 2006. Along with Haff and Gambling, he band includes vocalist Nathan Ellis, bassist Egan O’Rourke and guitarist Charley Shackelford.

"Everyone is taking a little time to catch their breath after working hard on bringing Lost to the Living to life,” says Haff. “We've continued to refine the music up until the last minute it was recorded and we all feel confident this is the strongest album we've made. As stated previously, the material is a mix of beautiful melancholic leads and harsh dissonant rhythms; despair driven hooks and the overall dark atmosphere you've come to expect from us. After an exhausting recording process, the one thing on all of our minds is the upcoming tour. We can't wait."

Soilwork tour dates announced

Our favorite Swedish death metal band Soilwork has announced North American dates for the band's ongoing "Scum Of The Earth" world tour with Throwdown, Through The Eyes Of The Dead and War Of Ages. Soilwork is on the road in support of its recent album, Sworn To A Great Divide.

Soilwork will appear on Fuse TV's "Talking Metal" program on Friday night, February 29th (12:00 AM EST, 9:00 PM Pacific), providing hosts Mark Strigl and John Ostronomy with a Swedish metal lesson. Legendary metal band Exodus will also be guests on the program; check out the Fuse TV "Talking Metal" web site for more details.

The "Scum Of The Earth" tour kicks off Friday night, February 29th, 2008 in Pomona, California, and hits the venues listed below over the next month. "Somewhere Back In Time" tour announced by Iron Maiden

Heavy metal legends Iron Maiden have announced North American dates for the band's upcoming "Somewhere Back In Time" world tour.

The tour was inspired by Maiden’s recently released concert DVD, Live After Death. Filmed and recorded over four spectacular nights at Long Beach Arena on the "Powerslave Tour" in 1985, this has long been a benchmark for rock concert videos and live albums, and the CD remains one of the biggest-selling live albums ever with sales in excess of six million worldwide.
